On Saturday March 26, 2016, the Youngstown Steel Valley Rugby Club will host the Fifth Annual Michael T. Hartzell Rugby Classic.
The Rugby Classic honors Officer Michael T. Hartzell of the Youngstown Police Department. Officer Hartzell was tragically killed in the line of duty. All proceeds goes towards the Michael T. Hartzell Scholarship Fund.
This year the Rugby Classic will be an open division for men and women with double elimination 15s tournament. You will be gaurenteed three games so teams eliminated after two matches will receive a consultation game. Matches will consist of two 20 minute halves with rolling substitutions.
Mill Creek Metroparks has agreed to allow us to have this event at the Wick Recreation Area at 1861 McCollum Road Youngstown, Ohio 44509. This venue allows for three fields for the tournament.
The Michael T. Hartzell Rugby Classic will provide an opportunity for all Division teams to get a chance to tune up before the seasons starts back up and prepare for the playoffs or get into the spring season by testing your club against higher division competition all while helping support a very worthy cause.
Food and beverage will be provided for teams upon elimination and all tournament participants are welcome to the Post Tournament Social
Entry fee will be $250.00 a team. If your club participated in The Thomas “Chris” Smythe Memorial 10s tournament on February 20 2016, your entry fee is $200.00
